About Your Meter

All water meters are furnished by and remain the property of Indiantown Company. All water service must pass through the water meter. No temporary pipes, nipples or spaces are permitted and under no circumstances are connections allowed which may permit water to by-pass the meter or metering equipment.

METER TESTING

Field Test

If you think the water meter at your home/business is not registering accurately, Indiantown Company will, at your request, field test the meter provided it has not been tested within the past six (6) months.

Bench Test

A bench test may be performed if you think that further testing is necessary. The meter will be removed from the service location and taken to be machine tested. Should you request a bench test, you will be required to pay a deposit, the amount of which is determined by meter size. If the meter registers fast, your deposit will be refunded. If it is accurate or registers slow, the deposit will be retained to partially defray the cost of testing. Any faulty meter will be replaced. Bench test is sent to manufacturer for calibration and testing.

READING THE WATER METER

How to Read Your Meter

Some customers like to keep tabs on how much water they are using. Most water meters are located in a concrete box/pit and usually have a concrete or metal lid. The boxes/pits are usually located in front, at the side, or directly behind your house/business.

The meter face is referred to as the register. The water usage is recorded and shown on the meter register in thousands of gallons. Your water usage is calculated by subtracting the previous month's reading from the present reading. The 0 at the far right of the meter register is stationary. Only the 1000's are read for billing.

The meter is read left to right:

5/8" meter, first four digits

3/4" meter, first four digits

1" meter, first four digits

1.5” meter, first four digits

2” meter, first two digits

3” meter, first two digits

4” meter, first two digits

6” meter, first digit

8” meter, first digit

Carry Figure

When the meter has reached the reading 999,999, it will return to 000,000, similar to the odometer on a car. An additional figure at the far left is added to your bill and indicates that the meter register has completed another full revolution.

If you receive a bill that is higher than usual, contact our Customer Service Office for assistance. IN MOST INSTANCES, WE INVESTIGATE A HIGH READING BEFORE MAILING YOUR BILL TO YOU. The most common reasons for high water usage are excessive irrigation and leaky plumbing fixtures.

Following are some conservation tips and possible causes of excessive water usage. Every water-using appliance or activity in your home/business can make a difference.
